A letter from Al Stenekes

“It has been 8 years since my wife, Maggie, passed away after a courageous 30-year battle with cancer. Throughout those years, the cancer clinic at Joseph Brant Hospital became like a second home to us. The doctors and nurses there provided exceptional care and comfort.

During her journey, Maggie attended several of the programs offered to residents and their families at Carpenter Hospice. It was through these experiences and the gentle support provided by the team at Carpenter, I came to understand the important role the hospice plays in our community and the impact it has on the patient AND the family.

When Maggie’s cancer treatments were no longer effective, and caring for her at home was no longer possible, Maggie was admitted to Carpenter Hospice. The compassionate, dignified care she received in her final days left a lasting impression on me.

Wanting to give back, I made my first monetary donation to Carpenter Hospice. Over time, I realized that a better option for supporting their work was by donating stocks or securities. By doing this, not only do I avoid capital gains tax, but also allows me to give more to the hospice while reducing my taxable income. Knowing that my gifts help ensure that others receive the same level of care that Maggie did brings me great comfort.

Even when all hope is gone, it is comforting to know that our loved ones will be surrounded by kindness, dignity, and the best possible care available. By supporting their work, we can ensure that others, like Maggie, can find peace and comfort at the end of their journey.”
